Physically moving in to a new living space generally reflects an inner shift and desire for other changes in one’s life. A few easy Feng Shui tips can help you make better decisions about the selection and placement of the furnishings in your new home or in the home you already have. Below are some examples of how I am able to use my knowledge of Feng Shui and the resources available on Trend Funnel to decorate my small bedroom. Check out the lamps, pictures, and accessories I chose for my soothing and relaxing “Timeless Glamour” bedroom – and these will help guide you with your own preferences and selections!
1. Place your bed so you can see the door.
Before window shopping for new bedroom furniture, I wanted to re-visit the placement of furniture in my bedroom. I had my bed in a good “power position” – that is, when I am lying in my bed, I can easily see the door. But the bed was blocking one of the 2 windows. So I simply shifted my bed to the adjacent wall – which still kept my bed positioned so that I can see the door – and it also opened up access to my window.
I love the Home Elegance Art Deco Style Bedroom Bow Fronts Matte Cherry finish bedroom suite. And I especially like the warm wood tone, the curved headboard and mirror, and the footboard – which helps you feel contained and safe in bed as you sleep. This type of footboard is ideal when you face a window or an open door.
2. Choose skin tones and warm, rich colors for your bedroom.
In keeping with the “Timeless Glamour” trend (on Trend Funnel) – and to tie in with the Cocoa and Cream color palette in my living room, I selected the Smoke and Flames color palette for my bedroom – an ideal color palette because:
1 – It is best to use skin tones and warm, rich colors in your bedroom.
2 – According to Feng Shui, the red and white colors boost the Relationship and passion energy that is represented by a master bedroom.
3 – The color red – as well as lamps and natural light – reflect the Fire element in Feng Shui – and help to keep the flame of passion burning!
4 – Without the red accents, this color palette would feel too cool and “metallic.”
3. Select natural, sensuous linens.
The Vanilla Fields Queen Bedding Ensemble is elegant, calming and luxurious. And the Signature Oyster Silk Italian Cotton Silk Drapes – and black & white Marquis area rug – add texture, style, and comfort! To optimize your sleep, rest, and rejuvenation, the overall feeling that you are going for in your bedroom is: safe, comfortable, warm, and cozy!
4. Choose your bedroom accessories carefully.
Be very intentional about the pictures, photographs, and artwork that you choose to display in your bedroom. These are the last images you see before going to sleep and the first ones you see when you wake up. These images should make you feel very positive and should not be too stimulating to prevent sound sleep.
Be especially careful with the placement of mirrors in your bedroom. Make sure you cannot see your image as you are lying in bed – this can startle you when you are in a not-very-awake state. Move desks and exercise equipment to other rooms, or screen them from the bed. You do not want to be reminded of work or exercising that needs to be done – as you are trying to fall asleep. Also – either have no television in your bedroom at all – or put it into a cabinet or armoire.
